Record in the background?

I'd like to listen to something else as I record a stream from Audials.  I tried playing the station, starting the recording, then pausing.  I succeeded in getting about 30 minutes of the stream: is this a limitation of Audials, or did the stream stop of its own at that point and Audials not recover afterward?

  There is no time limitation, it seems that the stream paused by some internet connection pausing or maybe due to lack of empty storage.

  I experienced the same with both audials and tunein. Smartphone is oppo reno2. When recording do NOT mute the volume, put volume at the lowest possible level (1 instead of 0). Muting volume will stop recordings after half an hour or so. My smartphone considers the app as inactive when volume is mute and consequently forces the app to quit.

  Yes, my guess is that Android gc'd Audials running as a background process; if it should happen again I'd give the application the 'keep running in background' permission.
