In the Audials options in the filter subsection there is the possibility to filter duplicates and to keep only best recording available.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was looking for.

To me chkirsch's solution sounds like it would prevent duplicates being created but say I got tons of duplicates. What's your advice?

you can delete them, audials will not delete them.

I used the advice from chkirsch and it works. It just seems like a duplicate song(s) could not be saved or deleted at the end of each session. I've been wanting this for several versions but it doesn't seem to make the list of features.

Well that is kind of a bummer because yesterday audials got me multiple duplicates itself. Well I might go with an external program.

There are a lot of duplicate removers available for cheap. Just refresh the audials database and that should be easier than the method in the audials software.

Keeping only the best version doesn't work with streaming recordings in my experience.  Also, there doesn't seem to be any tool to evaluate the quality of the recording other than manually listening through the whole track.  (there used to be a tool that gave some information, besides bitrate)   Bitrate is still accessible as you listen to a song, but, there are plenty of 320 kbs files that have poorer quality than 128 kbs versions of the same song.
