Anyway to get embedded subtitles with Audials Movie 2025? Or perhaps this should be a feature request

    Hello,

You're right, embedding subtitles directly into the video file (so they are selectable and not a separate .srt) is a much better workflow.  Unfortunately, Audials Movie 2025 (and previous versions) don't directly embed subtitles in the way you describe. They typically download subtitles as separate .srt files.  Burning subtitles (making them a permanent part of the video image) is also possible, but that's not what you want since it makes them non-toggleable.

Here's a breakdown of the situation and possible workarounds:

Audials' Current Behavior: Audials focuses on recording/downloading the video and often getting subtitle files alongside. It doesn't have a built-in feature to merge or embed these subtitles into the video container itself.

Why Embedding is Preferred: Embedding subtitles (often as a separate stream within the video container like MKV or MP4) is ideal because:

They are contained within the video file, no separate files to manage.
They can be turned on/off by the viewer.
Multiple subtitle languages can be included.
    Workarounds (using other tools):

MKVToolNix (Recommended): This free and open-source suite of tools is excellent for manipulating MKV files.  It allows you to easily mux (combine) video, audio, and subtitle streams into a single MKV container.  You can add your .srt subtitle file to the existing video file, and MKVToolNix will create a new MKV file with the subtitles embedded.  Most video players support MKV and will let you select the subtitles.

HandBrake (for MP4): If you need MP4 output, HandBrake (also free and open-source) can sometimes embed subtitles, but it's not as flexible or reliable as MKVToolNix, particularly with external .srt files. It often prefers subtitle tracks already within the source.

Other Video Converters/Editors: Some paid video converters or editors might have subtitle embedding features.  However, MKVToolNix is generally the most straightforward and highly regarded option for this task, especially if you're okay with MKV output.

Feature Request: Absolutely!  Suggesting this feature to Audials is a great idea.  Go to their support forums or contact their customer service.  The more users request this, the more likely they are to consider it.  Clearly explain the benefits of embedded subtitles and how it would improve the user experience.

Thank you for the information!  That is very helpful.

As a follow up question - do you know if Audials pulls the subtitles directly from the content that is streaming or does it just download the file?  The reason I ask is because I typically edit the content that I stream, this can create slight changes in the timing of the movie or tv show that is streaming - which if the subtitles are not also tweaked to that same timing then that could create obvious issues.

Do you know if Audials can pull the subtitles from the stream directly or if there is a way to do that to ensure that everything lines up correctly in the movie or tv show?

    Hello frosty2,

When you start a recording with Audials, for exaplme from Netflix, you can select the desired ,, Subtitle settings,,:

If you select the option ,, Render to video,, the subtitle is embedded in the recorded video.

The option ,, From Netflix,, means that Audials will save the subtitle directly from Netflix in a srt file. A srt file is created also when you select the option ,, search,,.

    Thank you Mirela Radu!

Just to clarify, if I select "Render to Video" will I be able to turn the subtitles on and off when playing the content or will they be permanently on?
