Seems that you have checked convert video to audio checkbox and that is the reason why your video files are saved as MP3.

Unchecking this option should solve the problem.

Thanks for your response. I certainly didn't select that intentionally, and in fact, I don't see that as an option anywhere. Sorry to be dense, but could you point me to where this option is selected? I've done a web search for help and not seeing it.

I'm using 'Other Source/Screen Recording' --> 'High Quality Direct Recording' --> 'Record One Video'. It then asks me which browser, and then waits for the playback to start. The only options I see are which browser to use, and frame rate. My default formats are set for MP3 for audio and MP4 for video (the "universal" setting).

I've saved YouTube files to audio, and there is a step where it asks me for the output format, but I don't see that on the direct recording. I can save YouTube as either audio or video -- no problems there. I've recorded lots of streams without problem prior to the last update using the method I outlined abofe. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software also.

OK - literally 5 seconds after hitting send, I saw an ^ and clicked it and it uncovered a menu with the 'convert video to audio', and it was indeed checked. Not sure how that got there, and not sure why it is so hidden, but I got it working now. Thanks for the help.
