I want the highest quality possible from Nexflix / Amazon... Getting MPEG-4?!
So ideally my whole video library would be 1080p H.264 so that my PLEX server can easily deliver it to clients. But I've been having issues getting a high quality recording with this codec.
I decided to start off by using the "Keep original format." mode... figuring this would give me the highest quality file possible from my stream. Is this an accurate assumption?!
The result of this selection is getting MPEG-4 / Simple @ L1 codec files with bit rates between 5,000 kbps and 7,000 kbps. (1080p)
When I try to use "Convert all files" to H.264 "match quality" with SS... I get pretty cruddy files with around 1,000 kbps. When using H.264 "medium quality" I'm getting ~2,000-3,000 kbps files.
Questions:
- Are the MPEG-4 / Simple @ L1 codec files I'm getting with "Keep original format" the best quality possible files from the streaming services I'm using?
- What are some ideas on the settings to get the highest quality file possible from the streaming services regardless of codec.
- What should I try next?
If the MPEG-4 / Simple @ L1 codec files I'm getting are the best route... then I guess I could just transcode them all with Hand Break to H.264

I've gone to the H264 Highest Quality setting and am getting better results even with "Keep Original Format" selected... I guess this means for Amazon and Netflix Audials goes straight to the pre-set you're using.
My next issue is on the sound.... When selecting 5.1 surround or stereo, the sound level is really low. Even when forcing high bitrates on audio.
The +25% speech does help, but I'm curious what the community thinks about using this feature? -
If you want highest quality file possible then you check streaming services settings, capture at higher resolutions, experiment with different capture tools, manually adjust recording / myfedloan settings and transcode with Handbrake.

Older thread, but pertinent.
I am new to Audials. Looking for the best possible quality at 1080P.
First - My recordings off Amazon Freevee are 1280x720. Is the because I have a setting wrong or that is all that Amazon Freevee is putting out?
Second - The are many codecs to choose from. I will try H264 Highest Quality setting. Stupid question. I am baring my ignorance. When record on Audials we are not re-encoding causing degradation, right. This is a first time encoding from the screen. Please be gentle.
