    Hello scottglatz,

thank you very much for your request.

We are sorry that you may have had problems with your Spotify account while using Audials. We will be happy to refund the purchase price of Audials if you wish so.

Here are some background information on the problem you described "my Spotify account has been blocked".

(*) What does Audials do? (*) How does Audials work with Spotify?
    - Audials does NOT change the Spotify software.
    - Audials does not access the music files from Spotify and does not download them. Audials only accesses the audio output from Spotify and records it.
    - Method "Drag music from Spotify to Audials": Audials controls the Spotify software to play the desired music (and sets the playback to mute)
    - Methods “Drag music from Spotify to Audials” and “Play music in Spotify”: Audials changes the “passage of time” in Windows so that everything - especially music streaming - is accelerated
Offering software with such functionality is legal.

(*) What does Spotify do? (*)
    - Spotify describes in its user guidelines that you should not record Spotify.
    - Spotify reserves the right to block accounts at any time
    - Apparently, Spotify actually blocked accounts for individual users recently, presumably by discovering that the use was "very likely related to recording or downloading"

(*) How does Spotify notice the recording? (*)
Basically, the use of the Spotify server for playing or the use for simultaneous recording looks initially identical.
    - However, the "remote control" in the "Drag music from Spotify to Audials" method creates a playback pattern that is unlikely to occur with normal use.
    - The higher speed could also appear "suspicious".
This is how Spotify can tell that one “presumably recorded”.

    (*) What now? (*)
As mentioned, we will be happy to refund the purchase price from Audials.

Otherwise, it is a good idea to contact Spotify support. They can simply reactivate blocked accounts.

Our developers are investigating the Spotify action. Right now we strongly advise against using the Audials recording method "Drag music from Spotify into Audials" or recording is a higher high speed in the future, as this could have been the cause of the problem.

    Thank you for your understanding!

I am having the same issue. This is quite disappointing becuase I really like those features. Please update this when the dev team has come up with a fix.

Same thing here: Spotify account blocked because of suspected downloading activity.

So are you saying that it should be safe to continue to record as long as i record at normal (snail) speed? And Spotify should not be able to detect that I am recording? I had the same problem this week and just had my account re-activated after promising that I would not download any content from the service. I figured it was triggered because of the fast recording speed.

    Dear Denisa,

I saw that you are suggesting to record the Spotify musics with the normal speed.

OK, but even in that scenario, I have a doubt: I have been seen that all the information that Audials gives about each Spotify song (the name, the artist, the composer, ...) are exactly the information that Spotify presents about that song.

So, can we assume that Audials reads that information from Spotify, and Spotify can detect that? Thanks.

I'm another user who has been stood in the naughty corner by Spotify. Can we be assured that we are safe recording at real speed?

I have a doubt about recording with Audials at real speed: even in that situation I think Audials downloads Spotify information about each song (the name, the artist, the composer....).... am I right?

    Thanks

The information/tags should not be a problem, since they are read anyway, even with normal spotify use/listening, thus nothing "suspicious" about this...

My concerns, instead, are about the overall issue here.... this SHOULD NOT occur at all...!!!... If recording the streaming is legal ( Audials does NOT change the Spotify software.
    - Audials does not access the music files from Spotify and does not download them. Audials only accesses the audio output from Spotify and records it... ecc, ecc,,,) IT IS LEGAL, so Spotify is abusing with arrogance their legit users, especially premium subscribers who pay for the service...!!!..... SHAME on Spotify...!!!... We should all unsubscribe and leave them alone with their arrogance.... Unfortunately, as usual, this is not happening for most users, but I really think we should consider Amazon or something else instead of Spotify, at this point... The wors thing companies can do is forcing users to their absurd restrictions, pretending it is their right.... but how about users' rights...?... That's just one of the reasons I'm deeply disgusted about Apple and Google policies, for instance... and now even Spotify joins them....

    ...very, very disappointed....

A plea to Audials developers: You should have your voice heard loud here, if what you have always been claiming about the legit and legal nature of your software is true... It's your duty too.

Suggesting to record at 'normal speed' only, is not enough... it would be a defeat, as everybody here may guess..........

    thanks, Steve.

I purchased Audials for the sole purpose of recording music from Spotify.

    First purchase version 2018 = £19.90

    Updated to 2019 = £14,90

    Updated to 2020 = £14.90

    Total cost to date £49.70

Each time the recording speed has increased which is why I updated but other issues have become obvious (I do not have Spotify Premium so regularly ads are recorded instead of tracks or as part of the track) and now I am back to the recording speed of 2018 but I am repeatedly being asked to upgrade to version 2021 at a further cost of £14.90 which will probably not resolve any of these issues!!!  Until this is resolved I do not plan to "invest" any more money in this program.

    ...definetely true...

by the way, yesterday I mailed Spotify support to ask for my account reactivation. I did NOT "promise or confirm to Spotify support that I'm no longer engaging in illegal content downloads", nor I begged their pardon (...), at all....!....

I just underlined that, first off, technically no music content/files download is possible from their service, and that they had suspended my premium account while it was valid and paid in advance for the current month, thus I was the one suffering disservice caused by Spotify...

Well, they reactivated my account in a few hours..........

...this meaning that we should all demand apologies from Spotify, not the other way around...!!!

In this sense I'm not appreciating AUDIAL's attitude, too submissive... They claim their software is legal, then They ought to be CLEARLY and LOUDLY stating that Spotify is wrong..... and nothin' to fear..............

We should ALL be fighting Spotify's arrogance and their abuse towards customers.......

    Steve.

We are NOT DOWNLOADING contents form Spotify's Servers....

...We are just RECORDING our PC Soundcard output...!!!.......

Spotify should/can never, NEVER pretend we have no right for that............

and We can't accept that...... AUDIALS ought to NEVER accept that......... no way............

    Steve.

I contacted Spotify using their online chat system - I asked what I had done wrong so that I could ensure that I did not do it again - they would not / could not answer - just asked if I wanted my account unblocked to which I said yes and they did it within minutes.  As with you no promises required.

Since then I have not recorded anything - I don't have the time to lock up my PC for real time recording.- I do not have confidence that Audials will record the music that I want without the adverts so would not want to leave it unattended.

If Audials cannot resolve this then they should offer refunds or free upgrades if the new version is any better.

I Think that, at minimum, even with real time recording, Audials, are downloading the Spotify information about each song (name, artist,…).
I already ask this question to Audials services, some times, but they never answer clearly.

If "Audials, are downloading the Spotify information about each song (name, artist,…)." was the cause of it it then Spotify would have suspended accounts years ago. This Id3 tag information can be obtain from many sources.

The cause as document by Audials can be found here:
    https://support.audials.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403626064146-Spotify-suspends-accounts-for-high-speed-recording.

"If Audials cannot resolve this then they should offer refunds or free upgrades if the new version is any better."

You are right, once again, mate...

Audials cannot think we shall accept their poor "We will take this into account in the Audials software, no longer recommend this high speed recording function and explicitly warn against its use with Spotify. " (...!!!...), as stated here "https://support.audials.com/hc/en-us/articles/4403626064146-Spotify-suspends-accounts-for-high-speed-recording" ... definitely so sad to read...

...Hope They raise their heads, instead...

    Regards, Steve.

Denisa Aleman who appears to be staff replied to the first post and offered a refund but Audials have been very quiet since then.  This first post was not even complaining - just asking for access to the article!!!

In the privacy information on the audials homepage is:

Basically, you should always comply with all valid agreements with streaming providers. These can also prohibit recording.
If you break agreements, the provider could be an e.g. lock.
    Potentially visible: comfort features

However, audials offers comfort features that make the recording more comfortable. These lead to the fact that the streaming provider can create certain "data tracks":

So are you saying that Audials can sell their product on the basis that it can do certain things but if someone else doesn't like it and that feature becomes unusable you have no come back....

Sounds like selling under false pretenses to me
