Ok, Support found the problem.  For me, a super-easy fix.

    Do you have Malwarebytes installed?

Turn off Ransomware protection when using Audials.

All you really need to do is to enable an exclusion in the app for the Audials directory and the temp directories it uses.  I wouldn't disable your entire virus scanner.... you could, of course, but if you're streaming video, seems like you should leave it on with this exclusion.  Almost reminds me of when I had McAfee and it would start detecting viruses in data files with no executable header.

It happens.  Hey.... at least they give you the option to exclude a folder and subfolders from there... it could be worse.  If I don't get ransomware, it's a small price to pay, IMO.

Does the problem appear only in combination with Amazon HD Music? Or is it a general problem which happens with all kind of sources?

I only use Amazon HD, so I don't know about the others. But the Converter for video and audio doesn't work either

I cannot record video or music. I have reinstalled, tried three browsers and nothing is recorded. I get error if a video and failed if music. No reply to the two emails I sent this year. Scam springs to mind.

It's not fixed for 2019. I think they're still working on it, but it's been a few days since I heard back on my support case.

I have the same problem. 2020 (and 2019) all of a sudden will not complete a recording.  It will detect, record and go through, but if I stop it or if the video ends, Audials will not complete the save.  I get ERROR in red for any video recorded (from any source, using any method), and the "Failed" in blue appears next to the file.  If I hover the mouse over "Failed", it shows "Joining failed".

Is this similar to the same problem you have all been having?  I ask because I opened a support issue and the response is as if I'm the only person on the planet with this problem.

    Thanks.

"it's fixed. download the latest version ( 2020.2.11.0, built on 1/29/2020) at the website"

Didn't work for me.  The recording takes place, but joining to form the resulting video still fails, even in this version.

I have only been trying with Amazon Music, but with the app it detects the song, acts like it's recording, and then fails. If I just try doing it in a browser, it doesn't even detect that a song is playing.

This (coincidentally?) started when I upgraded to Windows 10. It had always worked in Windows 7. But that may have just been a coincidence on the timing, since there was an update to Audials also at the same time.

i stand corrected. it was fixed with version 2/11/0 and now audials rebroke it with version 2/12/0. i downloaded and tested it with Amazon Music and it recorded 5 songs and then FAILED to process them. back to the drawing board.

I just uploaded my info and logs to support.  Perhaps they will see what's going on.

IMHO, they are actually recording these things, but in segments.  When the time comes to post-process the segments and reassemble them into the final item, it fails.

I don't know about the audio files, but if they are listed with "Error" and show "Failed" at the bottom, then hover your mouse cursor over the "Failed" and see if you get the same "Join failed" error that I do.

Have not tried the Malwarebytes suggestion and even if it is a work-around it is not one I am willing to risk. Anti-ransomware is the main reason I subscirbe to MBAM. Until Audials gets it together and makes a fix—or works with Malwarebytes to resolve the issue—I am saving video as WMV and that is not failing. I hate WMV and will convert outside of Audials what I need to save.

I saw this and tried turning Malwarebytes off last night. It did indeed work after that. I'm a bit leary of doing that, however. Sounds like Audials needs to have a conversation with Malwarebytes and get this problem fixed.

received the following response from Audials this morning: "All we know is that Malwarebyes has made some changes/updates lately and since then Audials stopped working properly. In Malwarebytes case it is not necessary to turn off the Ransomware, but you could try to add the entire Audials folder as an exception into the Malwarebytes settings > allow list > select a folder > if Audials is installed as default, then on most of the systems, the Audials folder which has to be added as an exception should be found here: C:\Program Files (x86)" it worked.

I don't understand the not necessary to turn off Ransomware.  Malwarebytes ransomware protection definitely breaks joining because under the covers, it looks like audials is "calling home" to its server while manipulating files (read your diagnostic logs if enabled).  Perhaps using remote tools, etc.  Turning off that one setting made audials work again.

If you look at what William Campagna wrote above, he has a valid concern.  For the most part, I trust audials, but I do still have it on a separate, isolated machine.  Suggesting that audials entire folder be listed as an exception worries me much more than just turning off ransomware for the period of time I'm recording something,

At the end of the day, audials will either have to change the way they are doing something, or we will.  The current solution is a reasonable workaround for me, for now.

I found the malwarebytes tip works as far as stopping the joining. But I was having problems after the completion of an apparently successful recording that Audials 2020 crashed and lost the recording. This is how I managed to deal with the problem - if the video is still playing, perhaps another item folllowing the one you wanted to record, DON'T press stop in the little Audials box on the screen, instead pause the video, Audials will detect this and will stop recording and process the recording. Don't press stop until the recording has been processed, then the recorded item will be preserved.

Well this is my take. Don't turn off ransomware but use the software to make an exception to the audials installation. Go to the main install folder, you dont have to worry about where the converted files are being stored.

Really glad someone found a fix.  I added an exclusion to the folder solely for ransomware checking and maybe I'll do something like run the program under another user account and only give that account access to this folder to reduce the risk until someone solves it.  It's frustrating because it was working until I clicked a link in it saying that I should upgrade it.  If this is a known issue to cause this problem, why still offer the update?  That part makes less sense to me... especially since it doesn't warn you or give you notice of that workaround.

@sanderl31:   I don't know if you wasted 25 Euros....  they do update it and they do often fix things... with some software, it seems like it's best to "let the pawns go first" as they say and wait a few weeks to install or only install unless you run into a problem that requires it to.  And I admit that I was one of the pawns who figured every other update was fine, so this one should be too.... well, looks like I learned my lesson now.

I have the same problem as everyone else on here with 2019 and 2020 both worked fine till a couple of days ago.I think a refund is due or a fix needs to be sorted asap or has anybody come up with a solution.

Davebes, do you have malwarebytes on your computer?  If so, then you can work around it for now.

This happened to me (and others?) with an upgrade to malwarebytes, not audials.  The ransomware detection has a false-positive hit when audials does the join process.

Developerx - "...you have malwarebytes on your computer?"

That was it for me.  Disabled Malwarebytes and video recording worked.  (Audio/Radio recording always did work)

OMG. I've been thrashing around for months until I found developerx's comment https://support.audials.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360007008620/comments/360001380139  about disabling Malwarebyte's Ransomware protection. I tried it and it absolutely worked! Thank you developerx!
